At the “11th Congress of the Chinese Astronomical Society” held from Oct. 29, 2006 to Nov. 1, 2006, Dou Zhong and Liu Jianrong from the NTSC won the award of advanced worker in popular science and of advanced worker of the Society from the CAS respectively.

Comrade Dou Zhong has done a great deal of work in popular science and has made great achievements. The popular science book authored by him --How to Recognize Stars is well received by large number of readers and more than 20 thousand books are reprinted in 5 times. The book wins numerous awards such as the “Five-one Project” of the Central Committee of the Communist Young League, etc. What’s more, the website “Time” devised and built by him won such two honors as the first “Excellent Website of Popular Science Nationwide” and the “Website Design Award”.

In recent years, Comrade Liu Jianrong serves at the Secretariat of the Shaanxi Astronomical Society and is also a member of the popular science committee of the CAS. With her efforts, work of Shaanxi Astronomical Society goes effectively, in which activities concerning popular science are impressive and attractive. It has established friendly cooperation and mutual assistance relationships with many relevant societies over the years, actively taken part in public welfare activities and organized activities of popular science for community, countryside and large, medium and small campuses for many times; during such popular science publicity activities as nationwide “Science & Technology Week” and Shaanxi “Spring of Science & Technology”, it carried out education and publicity on popular science of astronomy and time for the whole society actively, gaining a favorable social effect and high praises from all walks of society.

After wining the awards, Dou Zhong and Liu Jianrong expressed that they would keep on moving forward to make better achievements and make contributions to the Society and the development of popular science on astronomical time.
