Abstract: Spin squeezing is a promising approach to overcoming the Standard Quantum Limit set by the projection noise of independent atomic ensembles. This paper briefly presents the basic concept and properties of spin squeezing, and introduces an experimental scheme of producing spin squeezing of 87Rb ensemble using an optical resonator, as well as discusses the decoherence mechanisms encountered in the implementation of spin squeezing both theoretically and technically. Finally, the application prospects of spin squeezing in atomic clock and the related problems needed to be overcome are summarized.
