Abstract: According to the structure of physical layer information frame of TD-SCDMA, we proposed a simple and effective method to estimate the distances between mobile terminals and base stations using the fixed position of SYNC-UL in frame structure and the good correlation properties of SYNC-UL. Studies on space channel environment, space communication signals and ranging method have shown that the ranging method based on SYNC-UL of TD-SCDMA can be applied to precise ranging without changing the frame structure. The calculated results can be used to distinguish between LOS(line of sight) signal and NLOS(non line of sight) signal and then to determine the location of mobile terminal.
