Abstract: In view of the characteristic of BPL long-wave impulse signals, the MUSIC(multiple signal classification) algorithm is used to estimate the time delays of sky-wave and ground-wave and distinguish between them. The simulations are made with the IFFT algorithm, a traditional spectral estimation technique, and the MUSIC algorithm, a modern spectral estimation technique, respectively. The comparisons show that both IFFT algorithm and MUSIC algorithm can be used for distinguishing the sky-wave and ground-wave from each other in low SNR and the distinguishing errors are all within±5 μs but the precision and distinguishability for MUSIC algorithm are better than those for IFFT algorithm.
