Measurement of Time Delay of GPS Timing Receiver Based on UTC(NTSC)

Abstract: The GPS provides an accurate timing method; however, the absolute time delay of timing receiver is difficult to measure, and for the existing method the cost is high and the operation is complicated; therefore, a new and simple method to measure the time delay of GPS timing receiver is presented in this paper. Based on the time difference between the time scale UTC(NTSC), which is generated and maintained at the National Time Service Center, and the 1 PPS signal output of the GPS timing receiver, the time delay of GPS timing receiver can be measured by using the international comparison link between UTC(NTSC) and UTC, and the time difference between UTC and GPST. The new method is simple and easy to use. The error of this method is also analyzed.
