The 25th Meeting of the CCTF Working Group on TWSTFT held in NTSC

The 25th meeting of the CCTF working group on TWSTFT sponsored by NTSC was held in Lintong on 18-19 May, 2017.

About 40 experts and delegates who came from 16 laboratories and one organization which belong to 13 countries and regions attended the meeting. These 17 labs and the organization include BIPM, NIST(America), USNO(America), SU(Russia), PTB(Germany), OP(French), NICT(Japan), AOS(Poland), CH(Swiss), INRIM(Italy), SP(Sweden), TL(China), NTSC(China), NIM(China), BIRM(China), BSNC(China), etc.

Dr.Shougang Zhang, director of NTSCmade the opening remarks. Victor Zhang (NIST), TWSTFT WG chairman, and Zhiheng Jiang (BIPM), executive secretary, hosted the meeting together. More than 20 NTSC experts, including Dr. Xiaochun Lu, deputy director of NTSC, Dr. Shaowu Dong, Dr. Xuhai Yang, and other scientific researchers and postgraduates attended the meeting. NTSC experts had deep conversation andheated discussion with their international colleagues during the meeting.

TWSTFT WG is one of the most important working group under the CCTF jurisdiction. It is in charge of coordinating work of TWSTFT among the laboratories participating the TAI computation, drawing specification, TWSTFT links calibration and the other related issues. NTSC’s playing host of this meeting shows the status and influence of it in the international time and frequency field.

Dr. Felicitas E ARIAS, Director of Time Department of BIPM, gave a report named “The evolution of UTC time transfer techniques”. She also introduced the development history of generation UTC and time transfer technology. The TWSTFT was reported by representatives of each laboratory. The working state, calibration situation and the next plan of international TWSTFT were reported by TWSTFT WG. TWSTFT SDR installation and operation and new digital modem research were discussed. The Process of TWOTFT was reported by NTSC, AOS, PTB, etc. Two recommendations were madeand they will be submitted to 21th CCTF in June2017.

       After the meeting, the experts and delegates visited the Timekeeping Laboratory, Quantum Frequency Standard Laboratory and Time Science Museum of NTSC, etc. The development of NTSC and its contribution to international time work were fully acknowledged. The next cooperative intention on TWSTFT, SDR, TWOTFT, calibration and optic clock research were formed in this meeting.
