At the invitation of NTSC, Professor Edward Allen Hinds, Academician of the Royal Society, Director of the Cold Substances Center under Imperial College of Science and Technology, Professor of Yale University, Guest Professor of Oxford University as well as an internationally famous atomic physicist, made a 3-day academic exchange with our institute from June 17 to 19, in which period he inspected the Quantum Frequency Standards Lab, and spoke highly of the establishing speed of lab and the scientific research fruits obtained.
On June 19, Professor Hinds gave a special report on Cold Atoms on Atom Chips in the meeting room on the 2nd floor of NTSC’s Scientific Research Building at invitation. In the report, he described how to cool and capture atoms on the atom chips and realize Bose-Einstein Condensation and atom interference, and said that the atom chips had significant value for the research & development of tiny atomic clock, high-precision magnetic field and gravity survey. He also answered the questions of participants after the report, and shared his experiment experience with researchers of our institute through discussion.
