Under the auspices of Chinese Astronomical Society, the 2014 Academic Annual Meeting of Chinese Astronomical Society and the 13th National Membership Representative Conference hosted by National Time Service Center (NTSC) of Chinese Academy of Science, Xi’an Satellite Control Center, Xi 'an Institute Of Surveying And Mapping and Shaanxi Astronomical Society was grandly opened on October 27 in Lintong District, Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province. More than 800 astronomy experts, scholars and students from various astronomical units gathered at the foot of Mount Li and conducted a three-day academic exchanges and discussions.

 Su Dingqiang (academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences), Dang Guanglu (vice-chairman of Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology), Liu Xiaowei (vice-chairman of IAU), and Cui Xiangqun (director-general of Chinese Astronomical Society) attended and spoke in the meeting. Guo Ji, director of NTSC, gave a speech on behalf of the organizing unit. Zhou Youyuan, Wu Xiangping, Wang Jingxiu (academicians from Chinese Academy of Sciences), Dong Guoxuan (deputy director of Mathematics Division of National Natural Science Foundation) and Zhao Gang (consultant of the 12th Council of Chinese Astronomical Society) attended the meeting. Yang Ji, secretary general of Chinese Astronomical Society, hosted the opening ceremony.

 The 13th National Membership Representative Conference of Chinese Astronomical Society will be held following the academic annual festival. In the two-day conference, more than 200 national representatives will hear and deliberate on the work report of the 12th Council and report of revision on Chinese Astronomical Society charters. Members of the new council will also be elected during the session.

 This conference has played a great role for academic communication and cooperation among national astronomy scholars, mirroring the latest research achievement and newest development in Chinese astronomy field and exhibiting the research level of Chinese astronomy studies, and will prove to be a great promotion to the development of Chinese astronomy studies.
