Professional Database for the System of International Compass Service for Science Won High Praise

Recently, the project named “Professional Database for the System of International Compass Service for Science (ICSS)” in the charge of Yang Xuhai, researcher from National Time Service Center (NTSC) and Li Weichao, doctor from NTSC has successfully passed medium-term inspection by the scientific database building group from Chinese Academy of Science during the Eleventh Five-year Plan and won universal praise from the experts present at the meeting. The database website is recommended to database building organizations as a template.

International Compass Service for Science (ICSS) system is mainly based on Beidou Satellite Navigation System in China, provides observation data and products like high-precision post precise orbit, clock error, ionosphere, etc., and is applied to the demand of high-precision navigation and other scientific research. Moreover, this database supplies open scientific data to scientific research institutions at home and abroad.

Since being put into operation in Dec., 2009, this professional database system has been ranking the top 10 among the 52 scientific databases in Chinese Academy of Science, and the 1st among databases of astronomy and space science in visitor volume. By the end of June this year, the total number of page views had amounted to 580 thousand, viewers of database totaled 120 thousand, download volume for users had been 10.0G, and its visitors were distributed over 10 countries like China, the U.S.A., Britain, Korea, Russia, Germany, etc. This professional database system had already provided data service for a large number of research institutions inside and outside Chinese Academy of Science and supported the scientific researches, projects or decision-makings of these users.
