A few days ago, the “Five-one Project Award” in the 8th Spiritual Civilization Construction of the CYL announced. The popular science book, How to Recognize Stars—Exploring the Mysteries of Starry Sky, authored by Dou Zhong from the NTSC, made its mark.
How to Recognize Stars—Exploring the Mystery of Starry Sky is popular among the vast readers since its publication by the Science Press in 2004 and ranks as the top-selling popular science books in such bookstores as Beijing Book Building, Wangfujing Bookstore, Dangdang.com, etc. In such short time of one year, 19,000 volumes are printed in four times. At the same time, it was rated highly by all walks of society and chosen as the “100 Excellent Books Suitable for the Youth to Read”by the National General Administration of Press and Publication. They have also been nominated as the “Excellent Books Loved by the Youth Nationwide”selected bythe Central Committee of the Communist Young League (CCCYL), the Ministry of Education and the General Administration of Press and Publication, the 50 excellent books recommended by the Publicity Dept. and other six departments of Gansu Provincial Party Committee to the youth of the whole province, listed as excellent book for the juveniles on the 1st reading month in Chongqing, what’s more, the book is also selected as the excellent book for the youth recommended by governments of many regions. Comrade Dou Zhong, therefore, won the “Award of Excellent Author”of the Science Press.
It is known that the “Five-one Project Award” chose such excellent cultural works as 42 books, 9 films, 21 TV plays, 9 dramas, 22 songs, 47 excellent cultural activities, 10 excellent new cultural artists, 24 excellent mew cultural nominees and 11 organizing works in total.
Launched by the CCCYL with a view to mobilizing and stimulating powers in and outside the League to participate in creating and producing spiritual & cultural works for the youth, the Five-one Project on the construction of spiritual civilization of the CYL is a cultural model project giving full play to the education role of spiritual & cultural works and a significant integral component of the youth’s cultural actions. Since its implementation in 1996, it has been recommending 173 (sets of) excellent books, 95 pieces of articles, 106 songs, 36 dramas, 24 films, 85 TV plays (TV films) and 115 excellent cultural activities.
