NTSC Honored with the Title of the Advanced Group on the Construction of Popular Science Education Base in Shaanxi Province

A few days ago, the National Time Service Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences was awarded the title of the “Advanced Group on the Construction of Popular Science Education Base in Shaanxi Province” by the Publicity Dept. of the Shaanxi Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, Science and Technology Dept. of Shaanxi Province and Shaanxi Association for Science and Technology jointly; meanwhile, comrade Dou Zhong of the National Time Service Center was honored with the title of the “Advanced Individual on the Construction of Popular Science Education Base in Shaanxi Province”. This time, totally 21 units and 27 individuals were awarded the title of the advanced group or individual on the construction work of popular science education base in Shaanxi province.

For the past many years, with the backing of its own popular science facilities of time-frequency and astronomy as well as that of Shaanxi Astronomical Society, the National Time Service Center has set up a popular science education base for the masses, where various colorful popular science activities of astronomy and time-frequency were carried out, rating highly by the public. Over the years, they have organized the activity of “Caravan for Astronomical and Popular Science”, delivering the knowledge of astronomical and popular science that people love to see and hear to campuses, military camps, workshops, and footpaths of rice field. Wherever they arrive, there were always warm welcome from the local people, especially the young people, because these activities have enriched their cultural life and promoted vigorously both the construction of harmonious society and new socialist countryside. There were diversified types of activities on popular science, including exhibitions, lectures, summer camps, winter camps, star watching with telescope and the exhibition of astronomical instruments in modern and ancient times. In addition, they have composed a large quantity of essays on popular science, published popular science books and electronic publications, among which the “www. time. ac. cn" was honored with the first “Excellent Popular Science Website Nationwide". At present, the National Time Service Center has become an influential astronomical and popular science education base in the local area.
